I’m Not Racist But I Do Racist Things 1

This is about the Rand Paul/Fox News Anchor Stossel call for, seriously, A REPEAL of the 1964 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.  I know you were probably expecting Alpha Man, but the new and improved Triforce is going to tackle this issue and stay on topic without detiorating into a narcisstic rant about my beautiful car, perfect abs and sexual conquests.  I will howver have to break my rule about not using my own conduct as an example to prove a point, hence the title.

Now what does that title mean?  It means I am not an idiot who believes in eugenics or that one race is inherently better than the other.  It does mean I will use the fact that other people are racist to my advantage (most white lawyers) and more importantly I will not forfeit my advantage, colloqially known as “white privilege” to consistently fight racism (most people).  Notice I didn’t say white people.  Do we see blacks universally up in arms about the new Arizona law?  People are people and darker skin doesn’t make you a saint.

Why We Still Go to Law School (Even the Third Tier) 6

Posted on May 11, 2010 by KF Li

So this is late and I apologize.  I am trying something different here.  Mike Triforce is still my hero, but I am going to stray a little bit and try and actually answer Benito’s question, which was simply…why?  Alpha Man clarified.  “Why, with everything you’ve been exposed to as part of this blog, would you borrow more money and go to law school, particularly a third tier law school?”  The Mike Triforce answer is easy.  I am going to make it, despite how many people have failed, and I want the BMW driving, bottles and models, JD-Just DOllaZ lifestyle.  Please don’t get me wrong I do.  But if I am really honest that’s not it, that’s not even 50% of it.  The reason I applied to law school and plan on attending is because of the way it makes me feel.

Please read on as I try to explain what I am experiencing, and how I believe that translates into the “average” undergrad or young person.

Student Debt 201: Is Your Degree Market or Expertise Driven? 4

Posted on April 15, 2010 by Benito Mario

I didn’t realize this until Benito pointed it out: the difference between a market driven and an expertise driven credential. As you know I have been jaded lately and I think the root of all apathy in the medical field comes when you begin to view your daily grind as a job like any other. That was certainly part of my problem. Because I thought of it as a job like any other I assumed the degree that went with other jobs (JDs, PhDs, MAs and MBAs as opposed to MDs) were expertise driven. Doctors need MDs to demonstrate basic competence or people die. Benito then reminded me that not every job is a matter of life and death no matter how much Mike Triforce hams it up when he has a filing deadline. Here’s Benito to tell you what the differences are between credentials as part of our first 200 level class on student debt.

Hi kids. Consider this part of an effort to get back on track as near as it relates to our core mission of providing meaningful advice, insights and commentary into what affects us as student debtors. This is a 200 level commentary because it is a bit more abstract than simply factoring in the effect of taxes and interest on your monthly bottom line. This has to do with assigning a value to the education you received in order to be better informed when it comes to making a decision if the education juice is worth the financial squeeze. Read on to learn how.

Please Train Lawyers 2

Posted on April 15, 2010 by Alpha Man

So one of my heroes is Elie Mystal. He blogs over at ATL and has ever since he quit working for the Man. He keeps writing despite the haters who keep calling him fat even though their own physiques are not displayed for comparison. Anyway he wrote a piece recently on how recent law school grads are worthless. This got me thinking as I walked down to the courthouse to give moral support to a friend who got busted for selling drugs out of his food truck…why don’t lawyers have residencies the way doctors do? Maybe then my buddy wouldn’t have had to wait 18 months for a trial and run through three PD’s before he found one who knew more about the law than he did.

Two short months in and already I’m taking a…break let’s call it. I think I waited at least four months at the firm before taking off for a vacation, at least an official one anyway. But I digress. Listen up people. This may be the last time you here from me for awhile so pay attention. I am the ONLY inmate of Debtor’s Prison pulling six figures who goes to work in an office where everyone wears a coat and tie. I of course am above the dress code. I dress down to keep the women at the firm, particularly bosses off me and haven’t cut my hair in six months…but that only makes me sexier in their eyes, and even the bulkiest of sweaters can’t hide abs so perfect they resemble granite slabs like those found in the Ark of the Covenant. And that’s why I am getting the Ten Commandments tattooed on my stomach.

And speaking of the Ten Commandments This post takes issue with one: the prohibition on coveting. For those religious types let’s call this a Mike Triforce re-interpretation: don’t want what your neighbor has, want something better.

Ok, I might have said some things that were exagerations. I might have gotten carried away with this whole blogging thing. Being in debt is stressful but If I offended anyone well… Fill in the blank.

The Arrest at U. Chicago 3

Posted on March 04, 2010 by Alpha Man

This is not a political blog or a news site but…ever notice how black intellectuals keep getting arrested by over-zealous cops at elite learning institutions where the President used to study or teach? When it’s a Professor that’s one thing, you are getting paid and are a grown man. When it’s a student that’s something else.

Those of you in the know are aware of the situation at the University of Chicago but for everyone else:

The lawyers among you are already debating about whether he should file suit. I have a very different question though…1) is it worth the money and 2) doesn’t anybody know their rights anymore?
