I’m Not Racist But I Do Racist Things

This is about the Rand Paul/Fox News Anchor Stossel call for, seriously, A REPEAL of the 1964 CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.  I know you were probably expecting Alpha Man, but the new and improved Triforce is going to tackle this issue and stay on topic without detiorating into a narcisstic rant about my beautiful car, perfect abs and sexual conquests.  I will howver have to break my rule about not using my own conduct as an example to prove a point, hence the title.

Now what does that title mean?  It means I am not an idiot who believes in eugenics or that one race is inherently better than the other.  It does mean I will use the fact that other people are racist to my advantage (most white lawyers) and more importantly I will not forfeit my advantage, colloqially known as “white privilege” to consistently fight racism (most people).  Notice I didn’t say white people.  Do we see blacks universally up in arms about the new Arizona law?  People are people and darker skin doesn’t make you a saint.

Please read on

So first I have a confesion.  I say confession because I am acknowledging this is wrong.  This is progress people.  As an associate at a major Philadelphia Law Firm I took advantage of a racist partner who put an African-American female eigth year under me (I am a fourth year and such an assignment is unheard of).  I verbally abused her, made her do my work and gave her a poor review even though she didn’t deserve it.  I knew this review would use be used as a pretext to fire her should she not get the not-so-subtle hint of being humiliated by being under a slacker associate with half her experience who’s not a big fan of no tolerance sexual harassment policy.

Now let’s examine the argument posed by Rand Paul and Fox.  First they claim they are not racist.  Perhaps they aren’t in the sense that I am not.  Rand Paul is clearly pandering to an electorate he feels is racist.  Fox panders to a racist audience.  Paul wants to be elected.  Fox wants to make money.  Moving on, they then claim it is a private business’ RIGHT to be racist.  Now if I were Alpha Man or Icarus I’d devulge into the deeper, moral philosophical reason why this is wrong and those who are in favor of it better hope that perpetual non-existance and darkness is the only thing that happens after you die.  But it’s just little old me.  Mike Triforce.  The 2+2 = 4 logic that I am employing is simply this:  If the government doesn’t have the right to stop a business from discriminating then it doesn’t have the obligation to protect such an establishment, particularly with fire, police and emergency response personnel who may or may not be minority since Paul and Fox are not advocating that the government be allowed to discriminate legally…yet.

So how does this relate to student debt (the pruported subject of this blog)?  Well it’s known that schools can’t discriminate so they do with their prices…now at the mall that means pricing things so high that minorities who statistically are more likely to be struggling socio-economically can’t afford to shop there.  At universities it’s different.  It means pricing goods so high that minorities can’t use their education to rise out of the socio-economic situation (due to crippling date payments) into which they were born, essentially cheating them out of the American Dream…and if a few million run of the mill white kids also pay the price well so be it.  But hey I am not complaining.  At least I don’t have to deal with token Affirmative Action used to admit a handful of African-Americans while giving employers the excuse to ignore the credentials of all.

So that’s fucked up.  There is really nothing else to say.  I’ve got work to do.  We all do.  We’re human.  We are going to be selective about when we decide to do the right thing.  That’s why landmark legislation and landmark Supreme Court decisions are so important and so valuable because they represent a brief moment in time when the majority of those in power had the moral courage to do the right thing AT THE SAME TIME.  These victories for the better angels of our nature must be protected at all costs.

I had an odd reaction to this article. I am impressed by the honesty and yet deeply offended at the actions taken by the author.
